IT & Cybersecurity professional with a background in education, systems admin, and a passion for proactive defense.
I'm Ricky — a systems admin and techie with a background in cybersecurity and education. I shied away from education early on, but it opened up a lot of questions and perspectives that help me communicate and teach on a team. Even if I'm 100% correct but someone's not "getting it," I try a new approach instead of just leaving them behind.
When it comes to my tech career, I have a huge interest in cybersecurity but have always used my skills to admin and secure systems. Cybersecurity involves a lot of understanding technical aspects and making computers do things they don't normally do.
I currently use those skills to help integrate third-party applications — security, monitoring, automation — where they typically aren't offered, and to deep-dive technical issues ahead of or even outside of vendor support.
I believe that security is not just a component of technology — it is a mindset that must be integrated into every stage of design, development, and operation. To me, privacy is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for those with something to hide.

Rather than waiting for incidents, I focus on anticipating threats and building security into systems from the ground up.
If someone isn't getting it, the answer is finding a new approach — not leaving them behind.
I deep-dive into technical issues ahead of vendor support, integrating tools where they typically aren't offered.
